I wish you all the very best holiday with friends and family. My prescription for you is A LOT of hugs.

This will be the last blog entry for the year. I will post a new blog message on 1/3/12.

Here is a list of topics for your JOURNAL ENTRIES for TOMORROW and/or FRIDAY:
Please choose one or more to ask about at site, what you observe or already participate in.

Dear Parents:
I want you to know that the students are doing a wonderful job at their sites. They worked hard to train for their community classroom site experience and it shows.
I have asked the students to bring a holiday card to their sites to wish them well. They may decide to bring a treat, but that is optional. We want the sites to know how much we appreciate them hosting our students.
If students are going to be volunteering at their sites during the holiday, I will need your permission and an email stating your approval. Students will clear this with their site supervisor. This is one way to build up internship hours, but it is not necessary! I want the students to have a well-deserved holiday. Some students like to volunteer during their time off, but again, there is no obligation.
I will be traveling to Maryland on 12/26, returning on 12/31. If there is an urgent matter that must be addressed by ROP personnel, please call Shay Galletti at (925) 200-2593 during that time and I will have my cell (510) 305-5111.
Have a wonderful time with family and friends and thank you for your support in making Med Occs Rock!
Mrs. Erceg (925) 606-4800 x3640 (leave message) or cell (510) 305-5111
Happy Holidays!!!

Happy Monday to All
I can see that you are getting comfortable with the routine at your community classroom site. That is great! Keep referring to your journal topics and make sure you are being professional at all times. It is easy to slip, so stay strong and keep up the good work.
Please get your time sheet signed with a printed name - 100% return on 12/14, okay?
Remember to total your hours daily and for the whole week. List any absences and reason on the bottom of the time sheet, and have your minutes end in "0" or "5", Example: 2 hours 30 minutes reads 2:30. Do not list minutes this way- :23 or :44 - List actual minutes rounded to the next five minute increment. See me if you need assistance. Lastly, watch your addition...some of you were off the mark and I had to correct the math.
Holiday card/thank you card. Please bring a card to your site this week to thank your supervisor and/or staff. A treat would be nice, but is not necessary.
More tomorrow.

Sorry, I didn’t want to “steal” your thunder…
Sorry Kory…. I was saving “klept/o” for the blog -Why is it part of our study of the nervous system/brain? (be ready to discuss tomorrow - no E.C. or homework paper needed). Please read the following so you can talk about it in class tomorrow.
Psychology. Definition: An irresistible impulse to steal, especially when the thief can afford to pay. — kleptomaniac - an irresistible impulse to steal in the absence of any economic motive.
The individual experiences rising subjective sense of tension before the act and feels pleasure gratification or relief in committing the act. The stealing is not committed to express anger or vengeance, is not done in response to a delusion or hallucination and is not better accounted for by conduct disorder, manic episode, or antisocial personality disorder. The etiology of kleptomania, like many other psychiatric illnesses is described in a vague manner. In the textbook of psychiatry it states: “The symptoms of kleptomania tends to appear in times of significant stress, for example losses, separation and ending of important relationships. Some psychoanalytic writers have stressed the expression of aggressive impulses in kleptomania. The patient is referred for counseling in order to combat the urge to steal through various discussions and treatment with a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Hmmmmm.....interesting.
Talk to your family about acting F A S T. Do you remember what this acronym means?
How about the word "thrombus" and "embolus". A mini-stroke is called a "T. I.A." - a transient ischemic attack. What are the signs of a TIA or a full ischemic stroke?
HOMEWORK: Complete the "Career Research Paper" and attach the interview to the back of the paper (stapled). DUE FRIDAY 9/23.
Have a great night.

Arrrrrgh...Arrrrr you "Pirated" out Yet?

I certainly hope not! I hope you all had fun today. Thank you for participating and being nice pirates today.
Thank you Daniel, Cassidy, Vik and Krista for being classroom "Mateys" today.
ART CONTEST for Tri-Valley Haven: THANK YOU Emily, Victoria and Danielle R. - your entries look beautiful. Let me know what happened regarding mailing it in or dropping it off. THEME:Prevention, Power and Peace!
Regarding the career research project (Due Friday 9/23):
Interview can be done with someone in an unrelated field. Your report and interview should be the same career, but if you have not found someone to interview, ask a parent to help you find someone in the health care field. Attach the interview to the back of your report. It must look like this:
Mrs. Erceg: How long have you been working in this career.
Dr. Jones: I have been a medical doctor for 12 years.
Interview questions (you need 5 to 10) can be taken from the "Learning Advice" section of the assignment, #'s 2 through 6 and/or the list of interview questions I gave you. A VERY important question I'd like all of you to ask is "What are the personality traits necessary for success in this career"?
HOMEWORK: Work on your career project and/or the SafeSchools Online Assignment. Please bring in 10 sheet protectors. Ask a parent if they have any to spare.
Take care,
Mrs. Erceg (assisted by Morgan Self)
