Great Job Today

It was so great seeing you at the health fair today! I am so proud of how you handled yourselves at the booth and you all looked so professional in your uniforms. I hope you had a great time and had a chance to do some networking.

I have to say that Irman in the p.m. class, as the co-coordinator of the entire health fair, did an outstanding job keeping the entire day running smoothly. Wonderful job Irman. Amazing! You know, event planning may be one of your future jobs!

For those of you that worked the booth with me, thank you so much. All of you made a huge difference in getting the information to the participants and making it fun too. I really enjoyed working with all of you, and appreciate you working so hard to make our booth the best (I think it was the best).

Thanks Vik and Mehul for staying so long after the event to help load the tables and chairs onto the trucks. That took a lot of muscle! A few others stayed to help too. All of you that assisted with clean-up, thanks!

Take care and check the blog tomorrow.

Free Money

We had a nice presentation on getting money for school via scholarships and grants today. Keep the scholarship you have (or a copy of it) for your portfolio requirement. Didn't have one today? Print one out (the application) and bring it in next week so I can see it - Thank you. I recommend 5 to 20 scholarship attempts because you can receive money for more than one! Ask for help, I'm here.

Thank you Sierra, Travis W., Lizeth and Xochilt. You all did a wonderful job today and Xochilt, you put in extra effort today. Thank you!

GHS: RALLY ON FRIDAY 2/17! I will expect all students to be at site unless I am notified of a modified site schedule or permission to be at school with me for P2 and P3. I will excuse you for the rally. Please remember to let me know if you are NOT going to site.

FEBRUARY is Career and Technical Education Month. CTE is another name for ROP (Regional Occupational Program). There is a PRIZE waiting for one or more of you by simply going to your career center, (DHS - Counseling) and enter a drawing to win a gift card for Starbucks or Jamba Juice! Bring me proof that you visited the career center (signed note) and I'll give you extra credit points.

So, you want a job do yah? Well, you're in luck. The skills you are learning now will help you in applying for work this summer. We are going to work on how to apply for jobs, the interview, resume, cover letter and references next week. This also includes how to fill out a W4 - the IRS form that indicates your tax deduction/status. Ask a parent if you are their favorite "tax deduction". Awwww.

Take care,

Mrs. Erceg

Happy Valentine's Day

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY !

Did you show your sites some love today by giving them a card and treats? Thank you for showing them that we appreciate them. It's never too late to call and leave a message as well telling them that you are grateful to have the opportunity to work with them. Remember to never burn bridges. The people you are helping now are future references for jobs and college programs...and maybe future employers!

FOR TOMORROW: Please record your CC hours in your binder BEFORE class and drop off your time sheet to the classroom manager as you come into class. THANK YOU for helping me save precious time. Be on task and ready for class. Also, please be mindful of the need for quiet time and do not participate in disruptive behavior. Don't make me go to disciplinary action. Attentive, focused behavior is a skill that I must see you demonstrate to have a successful classroom environment. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Danielle Mintz will be coming in tomorrow to speak to you about scholarship applications and how to increase your chances on some organizations "showing you the money" for tuition, books and programs you are applying for. Bring questions and one scholarship application of your choice. Go online and find one you are eligible for as a Junior or Senior. Can't find one for a H.S. Junior? Print one out for a H.S. Senior, that's okay! You'll learn how to apply! Try to find one that YOU are eligible for. This will go in your portfolio. 25 points for this assignment will be awarded for students that have a scholarship application (check eligibility) in their hand in class tomorrow. This includes the ValleyCare Auxiliary Scholarship!

TRY THIS WEBSITE: http://www.scholarships.com/ You can also try others, as long as they are free.

By the way, no blog last night. You weren't imagining things. : )

Take care and see you tomorrow.
