So Glad to See You All !

Hi All,

Great job everyone! Your journal entries were wonderful and I can see that you have really embraced this new part of the program with comittment and excitement. I am extremely proud of all of you and the supervisors are already giving me compliments on my students. Thank you.

Reminder: Get time sheets signed Friday, record hours on master schedule and keep up the good journal writing. Don't forget the CC binder - have it with you every day.

Day Two...How are you?

Hi Everyone,

I will get to see you tomorrow and I am looking forward to it. I have been able to visit some of you and will get to see all of you at your sites. I know you are all representing the program well and I thank you for that.

Please have your journals ready for me to see and we'll have an open forum to discuss some highlights of your first two days. Bring your CC binder to class!!! Do not forget...thank you.

Welcome back!

Hello Interns,

I hope you had a great week off. I have already seen several of you today at your sites and I'll be visiting more of you this afternoon. Great job everyone!

Please bring in your donation on Wed. 11/30 for Tri-Valley Haven (teen gift).

Another reminder, make sure you are writing in your CC binder (journal) daily and documenting your hours on the year-at-a-glance calendar as well as your time sheet. First time sheet gets turned in on Wednesday, 12/7.

KAISER INTERNS: The afternoon orientation tomorrow 11/29 - starts at 1:30, not 2:00 (Pleasanton)

TOMORROW NIGHT! Medical Explorer Meeting at 6:00.

Important: There has been a HIPAA violation at ValleyCare by a volunteer (not from ROP). A volunteer posted something on Facebook about a patient and a nurse. NEVER post anything on the web that occurred at your site. Please report any issues directly to me. Thank you.

Happy Thanksgving Medical Professionals !














My hope for everyone is that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Think about what and who you are grateful for. I know I am grateful to have such a wonderful group of people to work with….all of you! I know you are going out there on Monday the 28th to show our medical community what you can do. Represent the program well, learn all you can and have a wonderful experience at your community classroom site.

Do your parents have your site information? Please post at home and ask parents to put my cell ph# in their phones.

Organize your CC binder during the holiday week. Make sure you have tabs for each section. Demonstrate your organizational skills!

Time Sheet Reminder: You do not turn in a time sheet to me on 11/30. You will turn one in for the week of 11/28 to 12/4 on 12/7. Your grade is affected each time a time sheet is late. Work on 100% return each Wednesday.

One more day......

Today, I said goodbye to my GHS folks and tomorrow, I say goodbye to my LHS, FHS, DHS, AVHS and VHS students and wish them well. I am anxious to see the rest of you tomorrow. Got game? Just a few more days....

....until Thanksgiving week! Then you start internship after that...I am so excited for all of you as you embark on this new adventure.

Thank you Kelsey, Cody, Vik and Irman. Great job today as classroom managers! I appreciate all the help.

HOMEWORK DUE TOMORROW: Post the internship site info sheet with my card on it in your home. Have your parent(s) put my cell phone number in their phone for emergency purposes.

Fill out the time management master schedule page and bring it in tomorrow. Please, do not do this in class - have it ready to review. Ask a parent to sit down with you and help schedule your week. Plan for the first week of internship and beyond. Feel free to copy the master schedule, or create one of your own using Microsoft Word (tables).

Hey Anthony...where's the candy? I prefer dark chocolate.

I am so proud of my ROP students.....I received everyone's online assignment today. I even had my classroom manager check out the binders. Thank you for preventing calls home, etc.

Orientation time!

Orientations continue and I need to meet with the veterinary students tomorrow to go over a few things we discussed today.

DUE TOMORROW 11/4: Specialty area research paper (copy and paste info from the internet) that's fine....here are the topic areas, regarding your site: Type these words with the associated information under each one:

PROCEDURES, VOCABULARY, PATIENT EDUCATION INFORMATION, INSTRUMENTATION/EQUIPMENT, AND COMMON MEDICATIONS.

Example key words for the internet: "common medications used in a ________ office" and/or "anesthesia used in ________setting". Print out at least two JOB DESCRIPTIONS related to your site. Look at your notes from class - we covered the specialists in each anatomical section of the body. Print out Medical Assistant Administrative and Medical Assistant Clincal job descriptions too. Staple it all together in the order stated above.

DUE TOMORROW 11/4: Form signed by a Career Center Specialist regarding your visit.

IMPORTANT - ALL KAISER STUDENTS !!! - Please memorize your SS#. In order for you to have access to the computers in the medical departments, you will need to give this number on a form, the info will be saved and NO ONE else will have access to this number other than Kaiser. Once the information is logged, the form will be shredded by the volunteer coordinator.

Don't forget......keep working on the online assignments....Safe Schools. 200 pts!

I am so proud of your support of Tri-Valley Haven!!! It was so wonderful to give Christine Dillman a check today for $100.00 - that was YOU that made that happen by buying bottled water in the classroom. We will continue to sell water and start working on the holiday gift drive. Thank you Danielle and Anthony from the PM class for stepping up and being the PM representatives for this gift drive. Get ready to schedule appointments and surgeries!

CLASS PHOTO TOMORROW!!! Please wear your uniform, badge, lanyard, and proper footwear. I want to see nice hairstyles and exquisite grooming, as well as proper make-up, jewelry and by the way...take out any facial piercings. I know you will all look great!!! Please come to class dressed and ready to go.

HOMEWORK: Show me a draft of your assignment that is due Friday. List out all of the titles listed in the 11/1 blog, with a bulleted list below each one, AND print out two or three job descriptions for jobs in your specialty area. Ask me for help if needed.



ALSO FOR HOMEWORK: Bring in your medication schedule, filled out with at least three medications, their strength, and times to be taken. Use a family member's medication (no names please - or just use patient name "Mrs. Jones").






By the way, thank you for exhibiting wonderful critical thinking skills, focus and attention today. Way to go medical interns!

Thank you Marcella and Danielle for being classroom managers today.

We learned a lot today about using the "PDR", Physician's Desk Reference. You can now identify and research a medication. More tomorrow.


REMINDERS:

Assignment due on 11/4 - please research your specialty area and your site's website (if there is one). For instance, kp.org, valleycare.com, etc. Please look up your site online. Follow the instructions from class regarding the bulleted list. We'll cover it again tomorrow.

Tonight's HOMEWORK: Bring in a draft of the assignment above.(copy and paste info from the internet) that's fine....here are the topic areas, regarding your site: PROCEDURES, VOCABULARY, PATIENT EDUCATION INFORMATION, INSTRUMENTATION/EQUIPMENT, AND COMMON MEDICATIONS. The Safe Schools online assignments are due on the 14th...but try for the 7th. I have eight completers!!! Plan accordingly because it is worth 200 points - it's your "final". Do not turn in late - treat it like your final.

Career Center Appointments: Extended deadline: 11/3, turn in paper on 11/4.

Get your uniforms ready! Class photo on THURSDAY 11/3.

Community Classroom Binders: The shelf looks a bit thin - if you do not have an empty white, window-front binder ready to load up with CC materials, please bring one in by Friday!! Very important, because on Monday, 11/7, we start working on it.
